We're currently bunkered down, fighting off "on and off" bands of those potent little rain showers South Floridian weathercasters call squalls. While Hurricane Fay (read that Rainy Day Fay) has been serious enough to prompt cancellation of work tomorrow and intermittent outages of DirectTV, it has yet to kill the power or the free condo association cable television. It's difficult to estimate which will ultimately prove more annoying--wall to wall local coverage of a tropical storm whose eye will make landfall some 180 miles due west, a baby who has cried roughly 80% of this waking day, or the 346th NBC interview of Michael Phelps and his annoying mother.
For your viewing pleasure, I've posted some video of the carnage from earlier today. If we can take anything from these videos, it's to heed the warnings of the authorities and seek shelter when they tell you to do so...or face certain wetness.

Do I detect notes of sarcasm coming from Brandon?
Well, if you are supposed to be in, why aren't you? You and Jerry and my boys would do well together as they think the worse the weather, the more you should go adventuring. I've been worried about you all day and finally you put some info on and you are like a CNN or NBC or whatever network reporter reporting right in the middle of the storm telling people to stay away. Well, it looks nasty but I suppose it will be worse before it gets better. Keep us informed though. Batten down the hatches and hopefully you won't lose your internet so we can be in the know about the Josephsen homestead. So what is Anthony so fussy about today? Probably wants to go outside and play, don't ya think? This is what happens on rainy days. Everyone is all cooped up and cranky. You tired of the Olympics already? I'm loving it and I like Michael Phelps. I like his Mom, too. If that were my son I would be there just like her as that is my way too. In fact she reminds me of me in the days when I had kids to root for and even though it wasn't the Olympics it was just as important to us. Very intense at meets and tournaments especially when we got to state. I can relate. And the kids appreciated it too. They laughed at me but they tell me now how much it meant to them. You have to have that support in whatever you do no matter what it is. Doesn't have to be sports either. Of course music events and such.Even academics and beyond and your Mom is busting her buttons too. For very good reason. 2 of them. OK, now I am done lecturing. (The annoying aunt, huh?) Keep safe. Love you all. Shirley
AC fixed yet? Just asking. . .
I just realized that Kelly was the one writing the blog and Brandon only did the video. So, Brandon, sorry I lectured you so much on something you didn't actually say. But I still feel that way. Kelly, sorry so harsh. All in fun. You have much to be proud of, too. I admire you your writing career. You are so talented. And what a brain. Look all that Anthony can inherit. Wow! How fortunate he is. Don't be disappointed that your hurricane didn't make it to that. Scott had so much damage from a straight wind (over a 100 mph) a few weeks ago that will take forever to clean up. Hundreds of trees down or damaged. Isn't nice. Love you all. Shirley
Nice pun with "Fay" - ha ha! Needless to say, since I never watch the news I had no idea that there was a hurricane in Florida, let alone what its name was! And who is Michael Phelps? Just kidding - I actually have caught wind of his name being mentioned on the radio when the DJ's talk about the Olympics, so I'm not *completely* in the dark about world events (although pretty darn close).
In case you guys were wondering, I had a lot of fun at GenCon this weekend - I got to meet the actor who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars movies and I got his autograph. I also got to play "True Dungeon" which is like a life-sized version of Dungeons & Dragons where you make your way through a sort of maze by solving puzzles and using teamwork to do different challenges. Is that geeky enough for you??? Ha ha! I'm sure in years to come Anthony will want to join me at GenCon, since I can tell he already has a taste for science fiction based on his love of R2D2. ;-)
Love, Aunt Kerry
I don't know if I prefer the posts or the comments... No, I know... It's the comments.
Love,
Amanda
I'm actually the one who wrote the post, so I deserve the credit. And, while the carnage did result in a potted plant being blown over, I'm happy to report no serious injuries. The pelting of the rain on my face while reporting did sting a little.
Anthony is better today too. Slept well last night and seems to be happy again. I tried to tell him that I was gonna put him out in the storm if he didn't stop crying. Kelly, for some reason, did not find that all that funny.
It appears that Brandon has way too much time on his hands,,,
Need more of Anthony,,,,
Grandpa Schaffer
Yes, to give credit where credit is due, this was Brandon's post. And Ellen and Dave both hit the nail on the head -- Brandon WAS being sarcastic (Fay was nothing) and he DOES have too much time on his hands (four days off work is too much, even for Brandon!)
And just so Justin doesn't try to cancel his plane ticket, the AC is (finally) being fixed tomorrow morning. Yay!
