If you remember, back in June Brandon spent all morning whipping up a delicious spare rib dinner in the crockpot -- only to find out he had forgotten to plug in said crockpot when, hours later, he got ready to serve the tasty meal. Well, he's struck again.
After diligently calling his mom to find out how to make the delicious oven-fried chicken that she whipped up when she came to visit us (I mean Anthony) in July, Brandon set about his task with gusto, coating drumsticks in Bisquick, frying them on the stove, then gently placing them in a Pyrex baking dish and popping them in the oven.
Unfortunately, he took Pyrex's reputation for being oven-safe a little too literally, placing not only the glass dish, but its plastic lid, inside the hot oven (and I quote, "I thought the whole point of Pyrex is that you could put it in the oven!")
The inevitable result is shown above. But doesn't the chicken to the right look delicious?
(For the record, I'm grateful to have a husband who not only DOES most of the cooking, but is a really good cook. Plus, I once made fried rice with Worchestershire sauce instead of soy sauce and eggnog with salt in the place of the sugar. Yum.)
I'll be back tomorrow with an update from Anthony's big two-month-old doctor visit. I'm excited to find out how much he's grown, but dreading the immunizations...hopefully Anthony hasn't inherited his mother's irrational fear of needles!

I guess we all learn from those kinds of experiences!!! Sorry about the latest cooking incident.
Can't wait to hear all about Anthony's 2 month old check up. What bib will he get to wear for his 2 month picture?

Hey, Brandon, I did the same thing just last year with an egg casserole. You make it the night before and then place it in the oven in the morning to bake. Well, what did I do? Yes, the lid was still on when I put it in and looked quite similar to yours when I took it from the oven. I couldn't believe I did such a thing. Just got in a hurry I guess and didn't think. So it happens with many more years of experience cooking, too. But maybe my mistake came from a senior type moment? I don't know. It's kind of like putting the coffee pot in the fridge instead of on the coffee maker. Yeah, I have done that, too. Or put the water into the coffee maker and turned it on without the pot underneath to catch the coffee. Uh, huh. I could name lots more. You are good for helping out and doing cooking. Kelly got a good one. My boys cook, too, and call me for recipes and how tos also. I'll bet Anthony will tip that scale large today. He's a big boy! Yes, it is hard to get those first shots. They seem too tiny for such wicked things. I have always felt the same way about needles, Kelly. So I can relate. But thank God we do have such things. Think of the alternative. Love you all. Shirley
Hmmmm,,,,, maybe Brandon should turn the cooking over to Anthony, or at least the details of heating the food in relation to the container/and/or heat source.

Well, the chicken looks delicious anyway! And we know Brandon is a good cook, having eaten his pork chops & rice, and pot roast. We've all had our kitchen disasters. I'll never forget our vacation in Myrtle Beach, where we had a kitchenette in our room, I turned on the wrong burner, and a casserole that was setting on it cracked, and I picked up the broken casserole, dropped it on the carpet and burnt a hole in it...needless to say, we were billed for damages!!
Looking forward to Anthony's report tomorrow, I know it will be a good one, and I hope he isn't too mad about getting his shots. I don't think he seems like the type to hold a grudge!
Brandon just wanted to test the BPA hype, I think. Always the skeptic.
It's nice how the plastic just rolled off, rather than melting onto the chicken - how convenient!
Love,
Amanda
Yes, we've all had our stupid kitchen moments. One of mine was that after frying some bacon I was looking for a container to pour the grease into, and I came across a disposable plastic cup, and of course as soon as I poured the hot grease into the cup it instantly disintigrated and I had hot grease all over the place!
I also seem to recall SOMEONE mistaking a blender for a hot-air popcorn popper! Ha ha! ;-)
