Reading, Riting and Rolling

We made it! Anthony completed his first day of "school" today, meaning I survived my first day of knowing my baby was out in the big, bad world without me. I did manage to quit crying before I got into the office, and I limited myself to one checkup phone call.

***OK, in all honesty, I called once and left a message, and when I didn't hear back in an hour, called again and was informed that Anthony was happily at play. Then, later, someone picked up my original message and called to tell me Anthony was doing great and was in the middle of a nap. So I got a free bonus report without having to be "that mom who calls all the time." ***

Despite the good reports from the daycare, I was happy when quittin' time rolled around and I was able to go see Anthony for myself. And there he was, contentedly relaxing in a swing, having just completed his bottle. Even better, the little guy showed impeccable timing by having just had a dirty diaper and the ensuing diaper change!

The teachers said Anthony did great, fussing only when he got sleepy, not even at meal time. It's a similar report to those we got from his grandparents when they watched him for the past two weeks, but in my mind the jury's still out. I mean, we pay the people at the daycare, so it's not like they're going to rip my child to my face. And the grandparents are, well, grandparents -- not exactly "fair and balanced."

Anyway, Anthony and I got home and played for a bit, and talked about our days. As you can see in the above video, his lesson today was apparently something along the lines of "Reading, Riting and Rolling," as he displayed an ever-growing aptitude for getting from one side to the other. Not only did he display his front-to-back roll -- a trick he mastered during his "home schooling" days -- but he got ever closer to completing the cycle back to his belly.

Now, no doubt tuckered out from a long day of learning and socializing, the little guy is taking a much-deserved nap. I have to admit I'm glad today is over, although I know it will be some time before it feels "normal" to drop Anthony off with someone other than family.

Way to go, Anthony! Sounds like a perfect first day of new experiences, and he came through like a trooper. Wow, he is really getting close to figuring out how to roll from back to front...he just needs to figure out what to do with that arm that's in the way! Watching it, you just want to reach out and give him that final shove. :-) We love this latest blog entry, and now we grandparents can breathe a sigh of relief that he will do fine in daycare! And we ARE fair and balanced, you know....

He's soooo close to making it back onto his belly! Use the Force, Anthony! ;-) Actually, it still looks to me like he's trying to do yoga.

I'm glad the first day of daycare went well - that's awesome that you got to hear from the teacher twice even though you only called once! Woot!

Love, Aunt Kerry
:-)

I like the yoga comparison! He is insanely flexible...the back of his little head is nearly touching his back as he struggles to roll. Sometimes I'm worried he's going to pull a muscle, but I guess it's only us old folks who do that!

Help me, help me! He'll get there soon, I'll bet. Can't believe Anthony is getting so big. Little sweetheart. He didn't look too battered after his first day at day care, so they didn't beat him into submission. He is making lots of new friends. So naturally he is happy and contented. I am proud of you, Kelly, for your composure on the first day. It is hard to do. And one phone call is good. Soon you will go without having to make any. You will all adjust. Love it when he makes noise on the videos so we can hear his voice. Makes him more real that way. Get more of those. Love you all. Shirley
