Anthony is 3 months old today! Thank you, Dr. Karp!!!!

Anthony hit the big three-month point today! I can't give any updates on his weight/height, as he doesn't visit the doctor until his four-month birthday, but he seems to get bigger every day. As you can tell by comparing the pictures, he's getting more alert and upright, too.

And he's loving his new St. Louis Cardinals warmup suit -- thank you to Ellen's parents, Barb and Scott! Unfortunately, it's been a bad year for St. Louis sports teams. I'm going to have to suffer through another brutal Rams game this afternoon, while Kelly gets to revel in the success of both the Packers and the Jets. NOT FAIR!

Anthony at two months------------------------>

Meanwhile, the little guy continues to discover new things and skills all the time. He loves to examine his little hands, and has learned how fun it is to stick his tongue out at people (another one of those things only babies can get away with!).

He's also really starting to intentionally grab for his toys, and is striving valiantly to roll from his back to his stomach. He can't quite get there yet, but he's starting to figure out how to use his legs for leverage. And, for some strange reason, he is oddly entertained by someone sticking his feet in his mouth.
Best of all, though, is we're done with what Dr. Harvey Karp, the extraordinary author of the Happiest Baby on the Block and innovator of the 5 S's (I forgot what they are already. Smoking? Sugar? Swimming? Shaving? Showering?), calls the 4th trimester. Those newborn days are over, we've survived and now we have just a regular old little big boy baby!! And that makes everyone happy.

Oh, and Kelly just reminded me what those life-changing 5 S's were--swaddling, shushing, side, swinging, and sucking. Profound. If only I had come up with the idea, then I could be the rich one to have written a 300 page book and DVD, which retails for the bargain price of $14.95, on the 5 things that all parents do, but can't quite articulate in such a clever a way as 5 S's.

Your little alarm clock must have gotten you up this Sunday morning. No more sleeping in is there? My goodness, he is now way bigger than Winnie. Going to be big like Dad and Uncle Justin. Cute pictures. I never heard of Dr. Karp. I just remember Dr. Spock and I never did read him or go much by what he said. Just my own way I guess. And somehow with or without the experts parental instinct still works real good. Well, I think so anyway. Got my kids all raised pretty well. Yeah, it seems the teams we like around here are kinda slumpy too. The Cubs screwed themselves up. Iowa football did well though. Beat Iowa State yesterday in the big rain. And won big the last 2. So if your team is boring you today just play with little Sweetie Pie. That's best anyway. Give Anthony an extra squeeze for me today. Love you all. Shirley

Happy birthday, Anthony!
Brandon, I've seen your "intuition" at play with Javy, and recommend you go with what the books are sayin' about Anthony.
Let me go ahead and say it, before someone else does... Awww, poor Brandon. You are a great dad!
And... Kelly is a super hot mama!

Love,
Amanda

Congratulations to all of you, surviving the first three months is a real accomplishment! Good job! Anthony is such a happy baby, just loving his life and learning new things every day. You can't ask for more than that!
