How Handy!!

Anthony has taken steps toward the achievement every new parent hopes for the most!!

No, not a scholarship to Harvard or a Major League Baseball contract...but the ability to self soothe! Last night, as Anthony lay on his tummy and lifted his little fist to his mouth, sucking away happily and quietly, my heart soared with visions of uninterrupted dinners and peaceful showers. Then, the little guy turned his head to the other side, lifted the other fist to his mouth, and continued his happy self-pacification. Pure bliss!

Or wait...I guess now I haveto start reading up on how I'm going to break him of this habit in a few years so he doesn't head to kindergarten as a thumb-sucker...

Witty, Kelly! Any chance we'll get to see the little man (and his entourage) anytime soon?

A thumb sucker is a good baby. I had a finger sucker (Scott, who quit by himself cause someone at pre-school said something) and a thumb sucker (Julie, who was 8 by the time we got her to quit by bribing and whose third grade teacher threatened to send her and us to a psychologist to break her and us down). Well, we avoided the psychologist. Personally I don't think it was called for. She and Scott just went from the sucking to nail biting which is an acceptable form of thumb sucking as far as I am concerned. Some kids don't like pacifiers and they need something to suck on so what is natural they do. It's OK! Everyone said Julie's teeth would be crooked and protrude and that did not happen. She has pretty straight teeth. She also got pierced ears out of the deal. And her mind is not messed up either. So suck away, Anthony. Julie used to say there was juice in there, but whatever comes out of yours, that is just fine. Best healer of wounds too. Owies feel much better after you suck your thumb and hurt feelings do too. You are growing so fast. I want to hug you. Love you all. Shirley
