Brandon and I celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary tomorrow, our first as parents. If it seems like a jinx to post this a day early, it's not -- I'm pretty sure we'll make it to No. 8, as no matter how annoying either one of us gets these days, that person bears little risk of being kicked to the curb because the other person realizes there's no way they could handle child care on their own.
Brandon has often pointed out that had we had a baby after 3 or 4 years of marriage, like many couples do, Anthony would be in kindergarten now -- and we'd be planning our first family trip to Disney World rather than wondering if we'll ever see the inside of a restaurant again.
At which point I typically remind Brandon that after 3 or 4 years of marriage, one of us (by which I mean not me) was in law school earning a salary of negative $40,000 a year, meaning we probably would have had to diaper Anthony with pages ripped from dad's Criminal Procedure textbook (perhaps an appropriate use??)
In any case, Anthony is by far the best thing Brandon and I have achieved together
Of course, he's up against such shining accomplishments as raising the world's best cat (the little guy's stiffest competition) and buying a vastly over-valued 1970s-era townhouse at the peak of Miami's real estate bubble (anybody looking for property in South Florida?) But in all seriousness, we love Anthony more than anything and we know he'll make this anniversary our most special one yet, even if we won't be celebrating in a fancy restaurant.

Kelly, I am convinced for sure now that you have all of the skills, cleverness and creativity to write a book OR a magazine article or two. This latest entry is so entertaining and our little grandson is adorable "holding" the sign. He is certainly changing by the week. I can't wait until Sept. to see him again!

Kelly & Brandon, congratulations on your 8th anniversary. Anthony is getting cuter every day. Of course I think that he looks like his Daddy. Did you know that Anthony's name is a part of his Danish heritage? Anton Petersen was Anthony's great-great-great grandfather. Anton had a son named Anton. He was a sister to Martha Petersen who married great-great grandfather Carl Josephsen. I have a photo of that family if you can tell me how to send it.

8 years...gosh, I can still remember that fateful day long ago in Freeport, Illinois, when hundreds of well-wishers gathered in celebration of the wedding of two wonderful people... and then there was your wedding across town. ha ha ha ha.

Hey, you get a sitter so you can go to a restaurant. I know it is hard to do but there are important things you need to do for yourself, too. I know you have friends around there who could surely handle it well enough if you are not inclined to use just "anyone" yet. We were inclined to stay home more with our kids too but anniversaries were the exception. And birthdays. This is how you make it past the 8 years. I agree Anthony is the best thing you have done together but don't forget to be a couple too. OK, the next one then. Celebrate with the little darling. And isn't he so. Doesn't seem like 8 years. Where do they go? Well, you have accomplished an awful lot in that time. I admire you both. So Happy Anniversary and while you're are at it give the little rascal a special squeeze from me. Happy Anniversary, Kelly and Brandon! The last 8 years have really flown by. So you know the next 8 will go fast also! You both are looking great, no different than your wedding photos....except now cute little Anthony joins you in the family album. He is growing like a weed and looks cuddlier than ever! Happy Aniversary to a very favorite couple, well co-favorite anyway. Now that you are a complete little family, Mom, Dad, Baby, and ok,,, a pet - and celebrating another special day. It seems like only yesterday when we were in Freeport - the weather was perfect - and your wedding was so very special to us. And everyone had a good time. Dave, Harry and I are very impressed that you are sending your best wishes to Javy! Harry thinks you are feeling very mellow and maybe had a beer or two?? Just kidding. Yes, the wedding was very special and we all had such a good time...and the threshing show was last week too, and Harry remembered going to that with you! They get a big crowd each year.
