Anthony's Independence Day

Anthony -- who is as of yesterday three whole weeks old! -- celebrated Independence Day last week in grand style, despite the fact that we decided against letting him play with sparklers this year.
Not only did he dress for the occassion in his "Born in the USA T-shirt" (which already can barely contain his pudgy belly!), he enjoyed more quality time with family and friends. Grandma and Grandpa Lantau were on hand to help him ring in his first Fourth, and little Lyla -- along with mom and dad Amy and Jason -- stopped by and brought Anthony some fun new toys to play with!
But America's freedom isn't the only independence that marked Anthony's Fourth of July. The night before, he spent the whole night in his bassinet, rather than in mom and dad's bed. We prepared him well for the move -- a new sleep positioner that lets him rest at an incline, as well as a radio turned to static to provide some essential "white noise" -- and it's been working out pretty well. It's a little hard for me to accept that it's a clock radio -- not mommy's arms -- that is the most crucial component to his contentment, but the marginally more peaceful sleep is worth the bruised ego.
However, I do at times question Anthony's taste in white noise. It's almost impossible to find a spot on the radio that's purely static, so every now and then some actual music come through. And while a 3 a.m. airing of ACDC's "Dirty Deeds" through a filter of loud static might be a little annoying for me and Brandon, it didn't seem to trouble little Anthony.
Maybe he inherited my bad taste in music...this doesn't bode well for the teenage years!

It sounds like Anthony is taking after his Aunt Kerry with his taste for "white noise" - maybe he would like a sound machine like the one I listen to at night? You could be listening to "Yosemite Falls" or "Crackling Fire" instead of static with bursts of ACDC music! ;-)
