Trick or Treat

Anthony has no fewer than three cute little Halloween outfits, but with the holiday nearly a month away and his growth continuing at a steady pace, I'm afraid he's not going to fit into any of them come October 31.
So, I organized a little photo shoot today, subjecting the poor child to three costume changes.
He handled it with surprisingly little protest, although he did start to get annoyed toward the end. In return for his cooperation, and assuming he can find this blog as proof, when he's a little older and wants to dress up as something truly obnoxious to go trick-or-treating, I promise he can have his way. I'm sure I'll want to eat those words some day when my son hits the town as his generation's equivalent of Barney the dinosaur or something.
But in any case, I think he looks pretty cute in his little outfits -- look how this one even has a litte pumpkin on the behind.
Anyway, I wanted to have some pictures, even if the timing isn't quite right. I guess that's the danger with "Baby's First (Insert Holiday Here)" outfits. Speaking of, I saw some adorable first Thanksgiving and first Christmas outfits at Babies R Us the other day -- which, to my credit, I refrained from buying. But as I flipped through the Thanksgiving outfits, I noticed my choices were 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, 12 months and 18 months. Which naturally caused me to wonder, if your baby is 18 months old, how can this possibly be his first Thanksgiving? Wouldn't he have inevitably been around the previous year?
That confusion aside, Anthony's doing pretty well. He did have to come home from daycare for the second Thursday in a row with a fever, something I hope doesn't become a tradition!
We think this time it's due to teething. He shows no cold/flu symptoms, but does demonstrate the early signs of that first tooth -- swollen gums, an insane amount of drool, gnawing on everything in sight. Maybe even if he can't wear his Halloween outfits this year, he'll be able to take a bite of his first piece of candy. Don't worry, I'm just kidding.
Anyway, aside from a little extra crying due to the suspected teething -- and to lamely tie this back in to the title of this post -- Anthony has been a real "treat" of late.
And he continues to get better at his new "trick" of rolling over. In fact, the other day he somehow left the soft safety of his blanket and wound up in the middle of the tiled living room floor. The only way he could have arrived there is by rolling from his back to his stomach to his back again. I guess this means I can never have peace of mind again -- who knows where he'll go next.
Anyway, I know the last video I posted of his new skill was majorly long...but here you can see that he's cut down his time significantly!!

What a "treat" to see Anthony dressed in three Halloween outfits!! He looked so cute in each one. I guess when he goes trick or treating he can "roll over" to get his treat.

Kelly, thank you, once again, for the clever script that accompanied the pictures.

Good job rolling over, Anthony! What a cutie!!!!
Some kids at the age of 1 already outgrow the 12 mo size. I think, just to be on the safe side, the stores carry 18 mo outfits, which when you wash them, shrink to 12 mo. Hayden is 11 mo. and I buy 18 mo clothes. He barely fits in his 12 mo shirts and pants.

Practice makes perfect. He will be everywhere now by rolling or whatever means he learns. And sometimes that teething process takes quite a while. Besides even when you think there is relief after a tooth finally comes through there is soon another on the way. Your little fella may be a big boy but there are little ones who are bigger than he is. Suzi's girls were wearing 24 mos sizes at 6 and 7 months. Now I agree that is an exception but just so you know that happens. So if a baby was born on Nov 1, it would still be it's first Halloween or the day after Thanksgiving and still be baby's first Thanksgiving (I have never seen the Thanksgiving ones)and could possibly be wearing the 18 mos size. Can't judge a kid's age by the size on the tag or the other way around. You wonder who set the standards. Doesn't really seem to be one. And every brand has a different size standard I swear. It's OK for him to wear his Halloween outfits now as we are in Halloween month. Wouldn't make sense for him to wait and not get good out of them. He looks awfully cute in them. What a dolly. Have I said that before? Well, I will keep saying it if that is OK. Love you all. Shirley

What a cutie! We only wish he could come to our door trick-or-treating, we would surely give him a treat! Kelly, I just checked in your baby book that you got your first tooth at 6 months, and I noted that you were "very fussy and irritable." Ha ha. Also, at 7 months you were pulling yourself forward to reach an object by dragging yourself forward by your arms, the soldier's crawl. Also, at 6 months you said DaDa and at 7 months MaMa. Supposedly at 7 months you were sleeping through the night from 7 p.m. til 5 a.m.! You were saying "many phrases" by 12 months and talked "extremely well" by 12 months. Hope little Anthony's tooth breaks through soon and doesn't cause too much misery. He maybe just decided he likes to come home on Thursdays now!

I think "has a fever" because he just wants to get a good spot on the couch for "must see TV." Oh wait, I just thought it was 1995 for a sec.
