A Day at the Park

With six months of heat and humidity approaching, I decided to take advantage of a reasonably pleasant day to introduce Anthony to the park. I mean, what kind of kid doesn't love the park?

Mine, apparently. The new surroundings must have been a little too overwhelming, because Anthony -- who is not known for holding back and never met a person/object/animal/electronic device/etc. that he didn't want to grab and stick in his mouth -- was suddenly extremely tentative. Despite being exposed to all the fun a (small) park has to offer, he pretty much stayed in one place and clung to my keys and/or the bottle of baby sunscreen we brought along.

Here are some pictures from our day at the park (as you can see, I couldn't even get Mr. Serious to crack a smile!):

Taking a tumble in the grass...

A trip down the slide (with mommy as copilot, of course)...

I thought for sure he's want to play with the rollers behind him, but no dice...

The rock wall...a perfect place to practic pulling up, one would have thought...

Is that the barest hint of a smile on the bouncy horse?

The swing was definitely his favorite...

It was probably just the newness of the experience that held him back. I'll bet the next time you take him, he'll like it more! Then pretty soon, he'll be begging to go!

Loved the pictures of Anthony's first experience at the park!
Grandma Dianne is right---probably next time he'll love it!
Thanks for sharing his day at the park with us!

Lots of hugs and kisses to Anthony.

Sober as a judge. You'll need to get him out more. Rather over whelming I guess. Too much world all at once. Grass feels weird to them if its the first time really sitting in it. Hasn't figured out what you're supposed to do with all that stuff. Yes, just wait and he'll want to go when you just can't always take him. Won't be too long and you'll be chasing him all over that place. And he'll think that is funny (and fun). It is unusual to see him go that long without that big happy smile. Don't you just wish you could get into his head to know what he was thinking? You are lucky to have the beautiful weather. Here it is Palm Sunday tomorrow and we are in the middle of a winter storm warning. Raining now but will change to snow eventually. We could get up to 6 inches here.Lots of wind too. Get the sleds and shovels back out.So Anthony, appreciate what you got down there. By next week we could be mowing lawns. Crazy.Love you all. Shirley

He always loves the park when I take him. Maybe he just wanted to go with me instead.

Yeah, I bet the grass felt weird to him - but I'm sure it'll grow on him (har har!).

Kerry is probably right. I hated and was terrified of grass for a while. I also was pretty neutral about the playground, but now I LOVE it. I march around like I own place and I make my mommy and daddy chase me all over, carry me UP (that's right, up, not down) the slides, try to wiggle into every tiny nook and cranny, etc. I still hate the swing though!

Love,
