To "celebrate," we took him to the beach. Because nothing says "celebration" like taking a child who is suddenly deathly-afraid of the water and is genetically disposed to dislike oceanfront activities (direct quote from Brandon: "I hate getting all sandy and wet") to Miami's famed "clothing optional" Haulover Beach.
Don't worry, we stuck to the non-nude portion of the beach, although Anthony did take off his shirt.
At first Anthony wanted nothing to do with any of it ("bye-bye, beesh; bye-bye, beesh") and tried to point the way to the exit.
He especially wanted NOTHING to do with the ocean, making a break for higher ground at his first opportunity.
We decided to give him a chance to get acclimated, and the introduction of a pail and shovel helped immensely.
Eventually, I dare say he cracked a smile.
Yep, definitely a smile.
Not sure what this is all about.
All said, Anthony seemed to enjoy his day at the beach, perhaps siding with dear old dad on the getting wet portion of the activity, but not appearing to mind the sandy aspect. But still, when we asked him if he was ready to go, he immediately popped up and starting tugging his stroller open...so we'll just go ahead and call the results mixed.Or, maybe he was just anxious to get home to all his fancy toys....

Precious pictures of our little 23 month old "Miami" grandson. His haircut is ADORABLE!!! I never thought I'd say that to such a short "cut" but it really does look cute on him.
We love you and miss you very much, Anthony!

It is fun to see the progression of expressions on Anthony's face, from "let's get out of here" to "hey, this is pretty fun after all!" Maybe he saw "Jaws" on tv and is thinking it's a good idea to stay out of the water? Anyway, nothing wrong with a cautious personality and looking before you leap! After a cold May here, that beach scene looks pretty appealing to us....
I think I go along with Anthony on the beach thing. It's OK, but yeah, kind of icky sometimes. I wouldn't go near the water either. Pretty to look at though. And I would like to actually see an ocean sometime. Never seem to get that far. Just playing in the sand is better. But it is hard to get off of you. Ewww.He is happier in the box. Most kids are. We love boxes here. Jeremy had a life size house box once. Jerry had gotten a great big office desk in his coaches office at school so brought home the box and it practically took up all of his room, but he played in that thing constantly. Played with his little cars in there. He even put a little folding table and chairs in it and ate his peanut butter sandwiches there (that was his only preferred meal at that stage in his life) and slept in it with his sleeping bag and he said that was his house. It finally wore out. He was about Anthony's age when he got it. Was perfect cause it was shortly after Julie was born and he was rather bent out of shape about that so this was a special thing just for him. He finally got so he wanted to put Julie in there to live too, but we drew the line there. So much fun in a box. It can be anything your imagination wants it to be. Was rather nice. Never had to pick up toys cause he had them all in there. And you don't need many as Kelly says. Who needs them when you have a box. Love you all. Shirley
