Meanwhile, the little guy continues his steady assault on our home. It's funny, because whenever someone asks if Anthony is walking and I again have to say no (because he's not, OK???), their next remark is, "You should be glad. Once he's on his feet, you won't have a moment of peace!"
Which is fine, except that on the motor skills development continuum (cute blob... cute blob that rolls over... %@!*, that's not where I left him a minute ago!... crawling... walking... running... climbing... sneaking out the bedroom window and stealing the keys to the car to go to a kegger...) Anthony has decided to abandon the useful walking in favor of the ever-so-unuseful climbing.

The tried-and-true technique:
(The second video could have something to do with the fact that our camera is currently broken. Anthony 2, Digital Cameras 0. Grandma Char knows what I'm talking about.)
The ensuing hijinks:
Guess which one of the above led to a bump on the forehead...
Fortunately, he can get down by himself:
But still, on the danger scale, walking is to climbing as canoeing is to white water rafting. In one case, you might fall down, but you don't have that far to go and your landing is likely to be soft. In the other case, let's just go ahead and set the over/under on Anthony's first broken bone.
Still, I do realize the not walking thing (which I'm completely cool with and not obsessing over at all!) does have its advantages... kneeling and crawling on the furniture has to be safer than standing and running on the furniture, right?

Love the videos. He will climb mountains one day. He seems to know where the edge of the cliff is anyway. Or he could be a mover as he loves to move and unload things. LOL. He will walk when he is ready. Not far off. He just has to figure out he can do it. I always thought kids were happier after they could walk and do other things on a different level. Also as far as danger is concerned it seems to me that there is less danger of pulling something over on themselves after they learn to walk as when they need something to get them up to the standing position and walking along it. Yes, the next thing is for him to learn not to stand and walk/run/jump on the furniture. He'll get plenty of bumps on the head before he is grown. He sure is pleased with himself by his accomplishments. What a sweetheart. Such a busy, busy boy. All in his own time. Love you all. Shirley
I see that Anthony is already discovering that it's fun playing inside cardboard boxes, and pretty soon he's going to be making forts out of all the couch cushions! And I've got a whitewater rafting trip all lined up for him when he's 12 (before I decided to go rafting in Ecuador I was searching for whitewater rafting trips online and I actually came across one in Morocco that's a "family" trip in which kids as young as 12 can go! You just have to wait 11 more years, Anthony!).
Love, Aunt Kerry
:-)
Thanks for the birthday wishes, I am having a delightful day! Rummaged through a used book store this morning, had some Fannie Mae that Kerry had given me, and book club to look forward to tonight. And a new blog entry! I got such a kick out of seeing Anthony remove all the pillows from the couch. I guess he does not subscribe to the pillows as accents method of decorating! And he looks so pleased with himself. In the last video, he sinks into his easy chair and sighs, having accomplished a hard day's work.
Yes, he is busy enough climbing, without adding walking into the mix. And remember, Kelly, you were 13 months old when you climbed onto the Lazy Boy, fell off, and broke your collar bone! Let's hope that fate doesn't befall him. He does seem to have a spirit of adventure and will probably love that rafting trip with Aunt Kerry someday!
Looks like little Anthony has as much mobility as he requires so far without the need of walking! Right? I would say he is just on the very near edge of making the huge discovery of the technique -
Proud Grandpa Dave
Hopefully Grandpa Dave is right. I suspect Anthony is more on the edge of breaking his collarbone, ala his mom.
